(1a) 1 Cor 9:1-23

Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are you not my work in the Lord? 2 If I am not an apostle to others, at least I am to you; for you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.

3 This is my defense to those who would examine me. 4 Do we not have the right to our food and drink? 5 Do we not have the right to be accompanied by a believing wife, as do the other apostles and the brothers of the Lord and Cephas? 6 Or is it only Barnabas and I who have no right to refrain from working for a living? 7 Who at any time pays the expenses for doing military service? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat any of its fruit? Or who tends a flock and does not get any of its milk?

8 Do I say this on human authority? Does not the law also say the same? 9 For it is written in the law of Moses, "You shall not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain." Is it for oxen that God is concerned? 10 Or does he not speak entirely for our sake? It was indeed written for our sake, for whoever plows should plow in hope and whoever threshes should thresh in hope of a share in the crop. 11 If we have sown spiritual good among you, is it too much if we reap your material benefits? 12 If others share this rightful claim on you, do not we still more?

Nevertheless, we have not made use of this right, but we endure anything rather than put an obstacle in the way of the gospel of Christ. 13 Do you not know that those who are employed in the temple service get their food from the temple, and those who serve at the altar share in what is sacrificed on the altar? 14 In the same way, the Lord commanded that those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel.

15 But I have made no use of any of these rights, nor am I writing this so that they may be applied in my case. Indeed, I would rather die than that--no one will deprive me of my ground for boasting! 16 If I proclaim the gospel, this gives me no ground for boasting, for an obligation is laid on me, and woe to me if I do not proclaim the gospel! 17 For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward; but if not of my own will, I am entrusted with a commission. 18 What then is my reward? Just this: that in my proclamation I may make the gospel free of charge, so as not to make full use of my rights in the gospel.

19 For though I am free with respect to all, I have made myself a slave to all, so that I might win more of them. 20 To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to win Jews. To those under the law I became as one under the law (though I myself am not under the law) so that I might win those under the law. 21 To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (though I am not free from God's law but am under Christ's law) so that I might win those outside the law. 22 To the weak I became weak, so that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that I might by all means save some. 23 I do it all for the sake of the gospel, so that I may share in its blessings.

"All things are lawful," but not all things are beneficial. "All things are lawful," but not all things build up. 24 Do not seek your own advantage, but that of the other. 25 Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without raising any question on the ground of conscience, 26 for "the earth and its fullness are the Lord's." 27 If an unbeliever invites you to a meal and you are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you without raising any question on the ground of conscience. 28 But if someone says to you, "This has been offered in sacrifice," then do not eat it, out of consideration for the one who informed you, and for the sake of conscience-- 29 I mean the other's conscience, not your own. For why should my liberty be subject to the judgment of someone else's conscience? 30 If I partake with thankfulness, why should I be denounced because of that for which I give thanks?
31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God. 32 Give no offense to Jews or to Greeks or to the church of God, 33 just as I try to please everyone in everything I do, not seeking my own advantage, but that of many, so that they may be saved.
11:1 Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.

/4/ When you go into any region and walk about in the countryside, when people take you in, eat what they serve you and heal the sick among them.

Do not move about from house to house. /8/ Whenever you enter a town and its people welcome you, eat what is set before you; /9/ cure the sick who are there, and say to them, 'The kingdom of God has come near to you.' /10/ But whenever you enter a town and they do not welcome you, go out into its streets and say, /11/ 'Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off in protest against you. Yet know this: the kingdom of God has come near.'

Matt 10:7,10b,12-14
/7/ As you go, proclaim the good news, 'The kingdom of heaven has come near.' /10b/ for laborers deserve their food. /12/ As you enter the house, greet it. /13/ If the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it; but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. /14/ If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet as you leave that house or town.

/7/ He called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. /8/ He ordered them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; /9/ but to wear sandals and not to put on two tunics. /10/ He said to them, "Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place. /11/ If any place will not welcome you and they refuse to hear you, as you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them." /12/ So they went out and proclaimed that all should repent. /13/ They cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.

Matt 10:1,8-10a,11
/1/ Then Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to cure every disease and every sickness. /8/ Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. You received without payment; give without payment. /9/ Take no gold, or silver, or copper in your belts, /10/ no bag for your journey, or two tunics, or sandals, or a staff; /11/ Whatever town or village you enter, find out who in it is worthy, and stay there until you leave.

Luke 9:1-6
/1/ Then Jesus called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, /2/ and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal. /3/ He said to them, "Take nothing for your journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money -not even an extra tunic. /4/ Whatever house you enter, stay there, and leave from there. /5 / Wherever they do not welcome you, as you are leaving that town shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them." /6/ They departed and went through the villages, bringing the good news and curing diseases everywhere.
